Hamburg Days

1960–62

It was one of these foggy, grey days mood. Eventually, I ended up at the »Reeperbahn« in the infamous »St. Pauli« district. Back then, not even in my wildest dreams did I believe that I would open the door to my new life. I, the son of an upper-class doctor’s family, who at that time couldn’t even spell Rock ‘n’ Roll correctly, was suddenly in the middle of the devil’s den of vice. Instead of Beethoven and the Biedermeier sofa at my parents’ mansion on the hill, I would soon be longing for »Long Tall Sally« and »Good Golly Miss Molly«, sitting on a chair in a smoky pub down in a cellar on the Reeperbahn.

It was a social impact triggered by their powerful music and incredible energy.
